Neelam Shinde, an Indian student from Maharashtra’s Satara district, is in a coma after a severe accident in California on February 14. Her family is urgently seeking a visa to visit her in the United States.
Neelam suffered multiple fractures and critical injuries after being hit by a four-wheeler. Her father, Tanaji Shinde, has been trying to secure a visa since February 16 but has yet to receive approval. Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule has appealed to Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to expedite the process.
Indian students in the US have come forward to offer help, while the Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the matter. The US authorities are reportedly working on the formalities to grant an early visa to Neelam’s family.
