Bengaluru, March 1 – Delhi Capitals (DC) stormed into the WPL 2025 playoffs with a commanding nine-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. A record-breaking partnership between Shafali Verma (80)* and Jess Jonassen (61)* sealed the win as DC chased down 148 with 27 balls to spare.

RCB’s Batting: Perry Fights Alone

After being sent in to bat, RCB posted 147/5 in 20 overs, thanks to a fighting 60 from Ellyse Perry*. Despite partnerships with Danni Wyatt-Hodge (21) and Raghvi Bist (33), RCB’s innings lacked acceleration, especially in the death overs.

  • Shikha Pandey (2/24) and debutant Shree Charani (2/28) shone for DC, restricting RCB in the final overs.
  • RCB managed only 28 runs in the last 4 overs, with Perry getting to face just seven balls in the last five overs.

DC’s Chase: Shafali & Jonassen Smash Records

Delhi Capitals’ chase started shakily with Meg Lanning (2 off 12) falling early, but from there, it was a one-sided show:

  • Shafali and Jonassen put up a record-breaking 146-run partnership, the highest-ever stand in a WPL run chase.
  • Shafali’s 80 (47 balls) included eight fours and four sixes*, showcasing her power-hitting.
  • Jonassen’s 61 (38 balls) ensured RCB’s bowlers had no answers*.
  • DC finished the match in just 15.3 overs, underlining their dominance.
